LeVeLs is a live music event curated by artist Mel Mwevi. The event is headlined by Mel Mwevi with an 8-piece band musically directed by Raymond Mupfumira. The evening will be welcomed by soulful Mhudi and further held by smooth jams from DJ Musketeer. This concert is the first of its kind in Windhoek and is acting as a pilot for further events in the future.
“We hope to take things up a notch by supporting and capturing original local music the best way we can. The event calls for a connection between audience members and performers with a shared understanding of respect for the craft and works on stage. It encourages patrons to come with a picnic basket and refreshments en tow, to sit and enjoy live music. LeVeLs invites the audience to a new and well-deserved standard of local music, performance and mutual respect between the performer and the audience member – to show up for music like music shows up for us. This touches on the notion that in many ways music doesn’t necessarily belong to anyone, we are but a channel for the craft and tool that has brought us closer to ourselves and each other for centuries. So… let’s give back.”
About Mel Mwevi:
Mel Mwevi, is a multi-disciplinary artist and storyteller from Namibia. She has been singing in bands, writing poetry and performing spoken word for years. A natural-born performer but hasn’t yet recorded anything, she reckons” partially of how empty a studio can feel and the lack of support of a live audience in a studio space”. Performance and listening to live music has carried her through some of the toughest times of her life. Having performed numerous times, she envisages this event to emulate a living room environment that was designed for comfort, warmth and intimacy, in the hopes of designing similar spaces and experiences for others too (as Middle Mel).
Audience members are encouraged to bring a picnic basket with refreshments, a blanket or a stool to sit back and enjoy with.
Tickets are limited and are on sale for N$ 150 in advance, and N$ 200 at the door. Purchases can be made via +264857069184 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
